Founded in 1964, Lane Automotive has steadily grown from a small, one man shop in George Lane's garage to a speed equipment industry phenomenon. Lane is known the world over as a premier supplier of all the best and latest performance parts and accessories for racers, hot rodders, truck and off-road enthusiasts. Within a relatively short time span, Lane Automotive's divisions would include Motor State Distributing, Allstar Performance, Lane Collectables, Exact Detail and the Lane Showroom. Today, the company serves racing and hot rodding enthusiasts from a gigantic warehouse/office complex located in Watervliet, Michigan, at the intersection of Interstate 94 and Michigan 140.

As Lane Automotive's customer base expanded the business grew to keep pace with that expansion. Motor State Distributing was established in 1971 to service speed equipment jobbers with the parts they needed. It was this division of Lane Automotive that would eventually achieve an impressive status in the mid-1990's as a supplier of parts and accessories to shops all around the world. A three-time winner of the prestigious SEMA Warehouse Distributor Of The Year Award, Motor State Distributing currently ships parcels every day to customers in twenty countries.

As the speed equipment market and related segments became more sophisticated, Lane Automotive spun off two other divisions to fulfill the requirements of these new areas. The Allstar Performance division, well known today as a source of hard-to-find tools and accessories, and the Lane Collectables division, famous for its Exact Detail Series, both came about as a result of the recognition of niches that existed in the market in the early 1990's.
