The highly anticipated attempts to break the record set last year by Curt Spalding at Kalamazoo Speedway's Call of the Wild event ended with four attempts and three racers actually eclipsing the old record of 10.715 seconds. When the four attempts were completed, though, Curt Spalding was still the record holder, shearing nearly half a second off his 2008 lap with a 10.217 time. Andy Bozell posted a 10.24 lap and Terry Sroufe ran a 10.515. Dan MacEndarfers attempt yielded a 11.22. The Call of the Wild is a "run what ya brung" type of show and the rules are pretty much put on hold to allow just about any modification to improve speed and cut down lap times.
In the actual race, Andy Bozell finished first, with Dan MacEndarfer, Terry Sroufe (in a dirt late model), Jeff Vochaska and Phil Bozell rounding out the Top 5.
